BALLIKAYALAR’da YENİ ROTA

Ballıkayalar: çaresiz İstanbullu tırmanıcının kaçış yeri.. Hele ki hafta sonu yerine hafta içi gidersen güzel bir doğa parçası imajını başarıyla verebiliyor- sessizlik ve sakinlik açısından yani! Biz de ağustosun bu ilk haftasında Antalya’lı tırmanış arkadaşım Burak Serter ve eşi Derya ile beraber yine Ballı’daydık. Ballı’da geçen çoğu antrenman günü boltlu spor rota tırmanınca  son derece anonim olabiliyorken, takozlu/ geleneksel tırmanış yaptığımız bu gün çok daha ilginç oldu. Bazı  boltlu rotaları geleneksel çıktık ve bir de kıyıda köşede kalmış  bir baca hattını takozla tırmandık. Aslında geleneksel tırmanış bekleyen çok hat var diyebiliriz. Maksat değişiklik olsun..

Öncelikle ısınmak için Perküsyon rotasının karşısındaki ‘Döbüsko’ rotasını geleneksel çıktık – bu nasıl bir isimse? ( V+ veya VI-, 24 m) ve ardından Gizli Bahçe denen sektöre gittik. Burada Efes Pilsen  boltlu rotasının sağında yeralan belirgin, çürük gözüken baca hattını iki farklı giriş  varyantla tırmandık: Sol varyant ‘Wenga’, VI- veya V+, 27 m, ve sağ varyant ‘Runout Abi’ VI-, 27 m. Rota oldukça güzel ve ara emniyet var ama baca içindeki gevşek, adeta wenga oyunundaki gibi birini çekince hepsi gelirmiş gibi duran  koca bloklar biraz tedirgin edici! Yine de, geleneksel yeni bir rota işte ve amacı gerçekleştiriyor- tırmanış! Rotanın giriş  etabı, kabaca Efes Pilsen boltlu rotasının girişini izliyor. Civarda daha da başka olasılıklar da var, ama biraz temizlik ve hayal gücü gerektiriyorlar:-)…..

SOME CLİMBİNG İN BALLİ CANYON AND A NEW SHORT TRAD ROUTE

Well, the Ballikayalar Canyon in Gebze is a popular escapade for the İstanbul climber and can even give an impression of a clean, untouched piece of nature, provided it is NOT a weekend! Otherwise it is circus where the climbers are poor animals to be harassed by wild picnickers, and there would be so many climbers on the crags that it is quite reminiscent of Alps- Walker Spur in a good weekend!!!

Anyhow, this hot week of august gave us a cool  climbing day in the shade, and instead of anonymous, unimpressive sport climbing on bolts we suffered on some trad routes- anything that comes along with the term. İt was quite nice  climbing really. First of all, we led a normally bolted route called Dobusko traditional style (weird name, v+ or VI-, 24 m) to warm up and then trekked on a narrow, subsiding path inside the dense shrubs to a faraway location called ‘Gizli Bahçe’. There, to the right of a bolted route called Efes Pilsen, lies an untrodden chimney- crack line,  for us, too obvious not to be climbed up to date, but that was the truth.  A first ascent with all the gardening, grooming, cleaning, stone dislodging and praying for an effective runner ensued. With my partner Burak Serter, we climbed the route in two different variations: Left variant ‘Wenga’ VI- or V+, 27 m, and right variant, ‘Runout Abi’  VI-, 27 m. Still there are immense blocks lying untouched inside the upper chimney and utter care is required to not to touch these, which undoubtedly is hard.

Thus, there are more opportunities waiting for the enthusiastic chock- wielding climber, even here in this exhausted, dirty, small canyon.. We should be back soon!
